Joan Francis Day is a Cajun writer, journalist, activist, comic book creator, television director, artist, painter, actor, poet, standup comedian, and drag performer. Raised by a father who owned a comic book shop and a grandma who remains an avid horror and scifi fan, Joan went on to become a theatre student at Flagler College where she directed her first original play, For Simplicities’ Sake, written by her friend Richard Lepre, before dropping out due to financial issues and immersing herself in the world of community organizing, journalism, and political theory.
Upon moving to Gainesville to get further involved with the Industrial Workers of the World, she discovered the Tom Miller Show. Attending the show eventually inspired her to begin writing and performing both poetry and comedy and even venturing into drag and other forms of performance art. She first met Vermin protesting Trump’s first inauguration, later working on his 2020 Libertarian Party campaign around which time she helped found the Libertarian Socialist Caucus of the Libertarian Party before abandoning the party altogether. She is the founder of Dragon’s Tale Studios and the creator of the Cannabeast comics franchise as well as the upcoming series DeaconStruction: Escaping the Ojambasphere, Nacho Clown Midnight Theater, and Vices 4 Vermin.
